Rose Otto (Rosa damascena) 10% Dilution
Rose Damask (Rosa damascena) belongs to the Rosaceae family, commonly known as the Damask rose. It is significant within its family due to its multiple uses. Damask roses are primarily cultivated for their applications in perfume making, medicine, the food industry and aesthetic appeal.
The essential oil derived from this plant is known as Rose Otto. This oil is obtained through hydro-distillation of its delicate, fresh, pink blossoms resulting in a beautiful pale yellow liquid with a sweet floral aroma that can instantly relax humans and animals. I will never forget the first time I experienced Rose Otto. I attended an essential oils course in the UK focused on working with animals and humans. I was never fond of the commercial scent of rose perfumes. However, when we passed around the Rose Otto essential oil, I was captivated by its fragrance and immediately changed my perspective.
Rose Otto has become one of my favorite essential oils due to its many benefits, so I incorporated it into three of FrogWorks' products: Path To Comfort, Peace Blend, and Spray It With Love. It is one of the most sought-after and expensive essential oils.
Rose Otto essential oil primarily contains monoterpenic alcohols like citronellol, geraniol, and nerol. These compounds contribute to the oil's therapeutic properties, which include its effectiveness as an antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antiviral, aphrodisiac, astringent and bactericidal agent. Additionally, Rose Otto is known for its cicatrisant qualities, which promote wound healing and its sedative effects.
This essential oil can help alleviate nervousness and act as a tonic for the heart, liver, stomach and uterus. It may also treat various conditions, such as broken capillaries, dry skin, eczema and aging skin. Furthermore, it may help relieve poor circulation, asthma, coughs, liver congestion and nausea.
Moreover, Rose Otto essential oil positively impacts the nervous system, helping to alleviate symptoms of depression, insomnia, apathy, tension and stress. It is also known to strengthen heart health. Many individuals, including myself, have found its benefits effective for several of these concerns.
Bulgaria and Turkey are the primary producers of Rose Otto. FrogWorks sources its Rose Otto from Bulgaria and Provence, France, two notable sources of this essential oil.
